PSG Overcomes Marseille in a Shootout to Claim Trophee des Champions Super Cup in Kuwait.

PSG players celebrating

PSG has now secured the season-opening cup on fourteen separate occasions.

Paris Saint-Germain required a dramatic equaliser followed by a perfect spot-kick decider to overcome their arch-rivals in Kuwait and secure a record-extending fourth consecutive French Super Cup title.

The Champions League holders appeared to be coasting towards a straightforward win in the match featuring the French league winners and the French Cup winners after Ousmane Dembele opened the scoring early on.

However, the southern French side fired two times late to seize a surprise lead. First, Mason Greenwood converted from the penalty spot, before the defender unfortunately turned the ball into his own net for an own goal.

In a remarkable twist of events, Goncalo Ramos grabbed a vital leveler in the dying seconds to send the contest into a penalty shootout. PSG goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier then emerged as the key figure, saving crucial attempts from Matt O'Riley and Hamed Traore.

From the spot, Ramos, the midfielder, Nuno Mendes, and Desire Doue all scored successfully for PSG to complete a convincing shootout win.

The record champions Paris Saint-Germain, who met last season's Ligue 1 second-placed team Marseille after achieving a league and cup double, have now won this trophy for the 12th time in the past 13 seasons.
